Well, for a 55g tank there are very few hot's out there that will work. The octo hot's work well, the internal one will work for a 55g max, the new double internal recirc pump will most likely work for a 75 or less. The mce600 by deltec will work fine for a 55g but is quite expensive at almost 500bux, the turbofloater blue 3000 for over 500 will work but is expensive as well. The bermuda rogue is the best hot out there imo and is 250bux although you'll have to buy a mag 5 for it, so 320. Thats it for hot's imo.

On my 55, I had used a Turboflotor 1000. Did a pretty good job, although I didn't have a huge bio-load.
I've since upgraded to a 90 gal.
In fact, I can let you have that Turboflotor real cheap. It needs a new pump, though.

I have a Aqua C Remora on my 30g that is quiet enough that I can sleep with it next to the bed. Once broken in they are pretty quiet. I think that for the money this is a skimmer that can't be beaten for production.

I've used a few dozen hot skimmers in my day and imo the remora is by far THE WORST value and performer out there and they are very noisy as well. I would rather do water changes than use one.
