dumb.....kinda long

I was going to go buy some saltwater books today. When my husband was driving home today, the hood flew up and smash the window. really dented up the car. anyways... I have some questions. I feel dumb asking them but here goes. Is live rock and sand really alive? What makes it alive?`I'm planning on starting a 55g saltwater tank in a few months. I knew there would be a lot to learn, but I never thought this much... What are some meds and common chemicals to get? any other advice i should:confused: read up on?

Live rock and sand is full of living organisms. I would suggest checking out www.reefcentral.com. They have all kinds of info. You will probably not need to spend a bunch of money on books if you spend some time on there.

If you buy Live rock don't buy live sand as the LR will seed the sand turning into live sand. It will save you some cash. You can also buy half base rock half live rock as this will become live rock over time. It'll save you cash as well.
