I have a 54 gallon corner tank. One damsel, coral banded shrimp, cleaner shrimp, leather coral, Frogspawn, zoos, clam, two featherdusters, six snails and one dying bubble coral. I am curently running an undergravel filter that is attached to my protein skimmer and an 802 power head that runs in reverse. A separate 802 powerhead that is run with a quick filter on it. 25 lbs live rock. API test kit shows perameters at KH 8, Calcium 440, Ammonia 0Nitrate 0, Nitrite 0, Phospate 0, PH 7.8. Refractometer reads 1.020. Temp is 77. The bubble coral has shrunk and will not come open. Some of the bubbles have hardened up. Should I move it to the QT tank and what treatment should I take in order to try to save it? will try to post pics
Thanks for your help.

Hi,

Sorry to hear about the trouble with your coral. It could of just had some damage from collection or something bothered it in the tank. Sounds like your tank specs are fine.

I would recommend doing an Iodine dip and that might help stop any bacteria infections it might have.

You can either take some of your tank water out and put in a small container, add about 3 or 4 drops of Lugols Solultion to the removed water and soak the coral in there for 10 minutes. Then remove the coral only and put back in the tank and discard the bath dip water.

If you do not have Lugols, you can use regular iodine like Kent Iodine, it's just not as strong, so you would want to use 2 or 3 teaspoons of regular iodine additive, or any Reef Dip type product.

Hope that helps.

Thank You,

Your sg is way to low, it needs to be .025 or .026 Your PH is also low, needs to be around 8.2. If you get that straightened out all your corals will do better as its much healthier for them.

Well, unfortunately it looks like the bubble is a goner. But your other corals will be much happier under those conditions.

I did the Iodine dip and it seemed to be ok. Hasn't had any bubbles come out for the last too days so I'm gonna do another dip. I think it is a gonner too. :( Cant hurt to try though.
Thanks for your help.
