I'm starting a 125 gal. fish only tank. I've decided I definatly want to go with an overflow tank, but not sure about a filter. One salesman recommended a Fluval cannister type filter, another said a cannister type filter would not work with an overflow, that I need to go with a wet/dry sump. I'm looking for advice/opinions from users.......not salesmen. Any advice would be appreciated.

Get the largest sump that will fit under your tank and the best protein skimmer you can afford. I'd also get a few tlf phosphate reactors. Run one with carbon and the other with phosban. An RODI is a must as well. The TLF reactors are 35bux a pop, cheap rodi 130bux, cheapest skimmer that will work well is a octonw200 for 200bux, sump=rubbermaid containers for a budget guy. HTH
